Are you ever driving down the highway and someone comes past you speeding? Or maybe you see someone shoplifting at a store and they just casually walk out without paying? In many cases, these types of crimes go unreported or unnoticed. However, is it actually illegal not to report a crime when you witness one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although it is legal to not report a crime in many states, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, there may be situations where failing to report a crime is considered a criminal act in itself, such as when a child is being abused or neglected. Additionally, some jurisdictions require that certain crimes are reported regardless of whether the victim wants to go forward with prosecution.
